FAQ - Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is a procedure performed in the physician's office where abnormal cervical cells are destroyed by freezing. A small amount of discomfort is usually associated with this procedure. This discomfort is usually in the form of cramping and is generally relieved by Advil, Aleve or other Ibuprofen medications.

After the procedure you may notice a slight discharge for 2-3 weeks after the procedure. You may even notice some slight bleeding followed by a thick, yellowish discharge for another 2-3 weeks.

Any bleeding or foul smelling discharge should be reported to your physician. If you begin to run a fever, please notify you physician.

During the healing process the tissue may bleed easily so you will be asked to refrain from inserting anything in your vaginal for a period of 3 to 4 weeks or until your physician sees you in follow up. Therefore, no tampon or intercourse during this time frame.
