FAQ - Yeast Infections

How do I know if I have a yeast infection?

If you experience any of the following symptoms you may have a yeast infection:

  1. Itching and burning of the vagina and vulva (external genitalia)
  2. The burning may be worse with urination or sexual intercourse
  3. The vulva (external genitalia) may be red and swollen
  4. A white "cottage cheese" vaginal discharge may be present. This discharge does not have an odor.

What do I do if I have these symptoms?

  1. You may use over the counter medications (OTC) such as Monistat
  2. You may call the office for an appointment
  3. You may visit an emergency clinic or ER

If you use over the counter (OTC) medications and the symptoms begin to go away but return, you may have a resistant yeast infection. You will need to call the office for an appointment to further evaluate your treatment options.
